A necessary message inserted within a magnificent national production with a chilling soundtrack (all hairs)
Medida Provisoria, the first film directed by Lázaro Ramos, premiered in theaters in April 2022. The production has great names in the cast, such as Taís Araújo, Seu Jorge, Renata Sorrah, Adriana Esteves and Alfred Enochwho played Dino Thomas in the film sequel Harry Potter and Wes Gibbins in the series How to Get Away With Murder.
The film, which takes place in Brazil, represents a dystopian future, and depicts the government imposing a law that decides to send all African descendants living in the country “back” to Africa. This decision, logically, ends up generating a huge revolt among the blacks residing in the country. The fight against racism brilliantly represented, and which brings a message that is more than indispensable to the whole world, bringing both political and social criticism in a way that holds the viewer, making the work the type of film that everyone should watch. .
The film’s soundtrack features Elza Soares, Baco Exu do Blues, Rincon Sapiência, Liniker, Agnes Nunes and Xênia França, with chilling lyrics and melodies. A more than deserved tribute to Elza.
In an appearance on the Podcast of Armpit, Alfred comments on how important it was to act in this production, not only as an actor but also as a person, and also says how good it was to be able to reconnect with his origins. He still talks about how grateful he is that Lázaro bet everything on him, because according to the Anglo-Brazilian actor, he wouldn’t have bet himself. Enoch acts for the first time in a Brazilian film, where the role he represents is that of a Brazilian man who speaks Portuguese. Born in London and having as his first role in his life a Hogwarts student, in Harry Potter, his filmography before Provisional Measure included works such as English films and American series.
Provisional Measure portrays a Brazil that does not recognize itself (and that, at the same time, ends up recognizing itself). A Brazil of the past, the present and the future at the same time. A strong and beautiful photograph. An ending that makes you want to run away and tell everyone you know that this film leaves nothing to be desired (because, in fact, it does).
The film has some nominations for best director, best actor (Alfred Enoch), best actress (Taís Araújo) and best picture, and it’s certainly not for less. Struggle, resistance, manifesto for freedom. And all this together ends up bringing a beautiful, essential reflection. Brillant! It’s all worth it.
