Top Gun: Indomitable Aces, from 1986, is one of those films that stayed in people’s hearts. It wasn’t even that good, but it had a lot of style. And yet it was totally unlike anything people had seen before. Just to give you an idea, it was a time when Ronald Regan was the president of the USA. And the Berlin Wall was still standing. Either way, it was the movie that made Tom Cruise a star, as Pete Maverick Mitchell, a rebellious and excellent young pilot. If you want to watch it, it’s available on Star Plus and Globoplay. 36 years later, Cruise is the biggest movie star, who decided to resume this character. And he made a filmão, which brings it all together. Exciting moments, fun, great action scenes and suspense. Worth seeing – and with the sensational aviation scenes – in the cinema.
More than thirty years have passed, and Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise), better known as Maverick, remains a rebel. He is testing jets in the desert when an opportunity presents itself. He has to accept a new challenge. This consists of training young Top Gun pilots to participate in the most difficult mission possible. Among the youngsters is Rooster, the son of his good friend Goose (played by Anthony Edwards in the first film). And in addition to the technical challenges, they have to face their own limits.
What did I think of Top Gun: Maverick?
The aerial scenes, of course, are sensational. Everyone knows that Tom Cruise put his foot down to not use the “green screen”. in aerial sockets. Even the cockpit scenes were shot during actual flights. So much so that the actors had to undergo extensive training. This gives an incredible differential to the film, with scenes of great suspense. But for me, the drama and conflicts end up being much more interesting. Tom and Miles Teller have a clear father-son relationship. Miles and Glen Powell (great) transport the Maverick and Iceman dynamic in the first film into the current version. And, of course, the best and most exciting sequel features Val Kilmer, the Iceman from the original. It’s just one scene, but it was worth the movie.
Tom Cruise e Jennifer Connelly
Much has been made of the fact that Kelly McGillis, the girl in the first film, is not even mentioned. That’s because, according to the actress, it must have been because she is fat, with white hair and looking her age. That could be it, but I also think it would be very unlikely that a guy like Maverick would spend 30 years with the same woman. However, Jennifer Connelly’s character, Penny, clearly has a history with him, according to their conversations. According to some sources, she would be the daughter of a commander who was mentioned in the first film. But either way, Jennifer is a point outside the curve, looking much younger than her 51 years.
It’s the same case with Tom. at the time of filming he must have been 57, 58 years old – he will be 60 next July. It’s surprising! Look at the football scene on the beach – by the way, everyone is soooo good, lol. Tom is exceptional. And even today, the new Mission: Impossible trailer, which will only be released next year. And Tom is still amazing.
