Imagine being able to have a completely different experience of seeing a work like “Storm on the Sea of Galilee”, which was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum 32 years ago. GUT São Paulo, an independent global agency, used technology developed by Compass UOL – a global company specializing in digital transformation through the use of state-of-the-art technologies – to return artworks that were stolen in recent decades to the world.
christening The Stolen Art Gallerythe campaign creates a virtual gallery in the metaverse bringing together works stolen from artists such as Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Cézanne, Caravaggio e Manet. The digital gallery will be accessible from an application that will be one of the first to offer the virtual reality experience from a smartphone, anywhere in the world.
“These are very famous works of art, but because they were stolen, very few people had the feeling of looking at and directly admiring these works. So, to give back this unique feeling, and show the market all the creative and technological potential of Compass UOL, we created this metaverse where the public can have a different experience and at the same time interact with other visitors, whether from the United States, Brazil, or from anywhere in the world.” explain Giulio BelotoACD of GUT São Paulo.
In the film shot in the United States, GUT São Paulo e UOL Compass invite five people into an all-white room in a Miami art gallery, where they found only augmented reality glasses. When wearing the glasses, they are automatically transported to the The Stolen Art Gallery and their reactions were captured for the campaign film.
People who had the opportunity to try the technology were impacted. “This is something totally different, it leaves you in awe,” said William Mii, an art student. Jeremy Bickford, an art teacher, said it feels like touching the screen.
The initiative reinforces the innovative character of Compass UOL, with a spoiler of the type of technological social interaction that the company can offer its customers.
“The technology explores the concept of the metaverse, creating a new level of social interaction between the visitor and the gallery. The proposal brings much more than a digital gallery, users interact with the works as in a physical museum and this can be done from anywhere in the world” says Alexis Rockenbach, CEO of Compass UOL.
