Celebrated on June 5th, World Environment Day is one of the most important dates to debate the preservation and maintenance of our forests. And to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and environmental reforestation, TikTok announces a series of initiatives, including tree planting, exclusive videos by great Brazilian artists, such as Gilberto Gil, in addition to a live on June 8th.
The #UmaSóTerra campaign is part of the union of efforts between TikTok,UNEP(United Nations Environment Programme), third sector organizations, creators, artists and the entire platform community to share good practices of concrete actions that are collaborating with the environment
Creators who wish to contribute to the campaign must post on the platform, by June 13, their inspiring stories about how they help or would like to help the environment. TikTok will plant a tree for each video posted containing the hashtag #UmaSóTerra.
“The current environmental situation requires not only greater attention, but concrete attitudes to preserve the planet. TikTok, through the hashtag #UmaSóTerra, encourages its entire community to adopt transformative actions in search of a more conscious and sustainable future. We are very happy to be able to collaborate, alongside great partners like UNEP, with an essential cause for the existence of a future for the next generations”, says Handemba Mutana dos Santos, director of TikTok For Good in Brazil.
The UNEP campaign, in partnership with TikTok, champions transformative environmental change on a global scale and calls attention to climate action, action for nature and action against pollution, while encouraging everyone live sustainably.
Training of breeders and environmental education
UNEP and TikTok also held last Wednesday (1st), a virtual training session with 46 content creators on environmental challenges and theUN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. The objective of the meeting was to broaden the understanding of the triple planetary crisis of climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution that the planet faces, in addition to detailing the paths to boost the restoration of ecosystems.
“We are happy to know that moments like these leave legacies and manage to bring environmental issues to a public that may not yet have full knowledge of the serious environmental crisis we face. Today, we emphasize again that the time to act is now and that we urgently need to restore our relationship with nature”, says Matheus Couto, UNEP Program Officer.
Handemba Mutana highlighted the importance of adding more and more efforts to overcome and avoid new situations caused by the climate crisis and made a call: “It is no longer possible to look at current environmental problems and think that it is someone else’s problem. Each of us has a role, and we need to play it. This was a great opportunity to learn from UNEP; and TikTok thanks you for being able to provide this moment.”
