The commitment was announced in an intervention by the brand held this Wednesday (08), World Oceans Day
Corona beer made an activation in Rio de Janeiro to present the commitment to recycle more than 5 thousand tons of plastic, equivalent to more than 287 million disposable 500 ml bottles, in the manifesto “Letter to the Oceans”. The intervention was carried out this Wednesday (08), World Oceans Day, and is signed by upcycling artist Davi Rezende, who used 400 kilos of plastic collected during beach cleanups in the city.
“Today, one of the biggest threats to marine life and the preservation of the oceans is pollution, especially through plastic. As a beer born on the beach, we want to change this scenario by working inside and outside our area of activity, inviting the public to act more consciously and making it easier for them to make better choices”, said João Pedro Zattar, head de marketing de Corona.
Similar actions were developed in other countries where the brand is present, such as Germany, Italy, Chile, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Corona has been presenting a series of actions linked to sustainability, such as the partnership with Parley for care, awareness and cleaning of beaches and oceans, the plastic fishing tournament earlier this year and the new returnable beer bottles, which promise replace the current long necks by next year. At Ambev, the goal is to have 100% of products in returnable packaging or mostly produced with recycled content by 2025.
