Instagram is testing a new feature for videos to appear in full-screen format, as is the case with TikTok, the competitor that has made the Meta platform invest in the gradual transformation of its content, from a photo network to videos.
The tool was launched for a limited group of people, who start to see the screen almost entirely taken up by the contents. The post description as well as the like, comment and share buttons are at the bottom; and the logo and other buttons float in the upper area of the screen.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the intention with the new feature is to make it easier to connect and discover new content. “Photos are still an important part of Instagram, and we’re working on proposals to improve the way [os vídeos] appear in full screen as well”.
In just over a month, it’s the second test the platform has announced to move forward with full-screen videos. In early May, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri posted on Twitter about another solution under review and said the network is “moving to a place where video is the biggest part of the feed experience.”
