What was the last transgender show you saw? Can you remember? We know that talent has never been lacking, but why do so many stages continue without presenting diversity for transvestites and binary and non-binary trans people? To collaborate with the visibility of these artists, Beats has just assumed the commitment of the Palco Beats, an initiative that will fund the fee of artists over 25 years old selected on stages of different concert halls throughout Brazil, with the aim of expanding the voice of this generation of artists and taking culture to the four corners of the country.
The logistics are simple – venues wishing to host trans artists at their events should log into Beats’ social media (@beatsoficial) and fill in the application form. Artists from 25 years of age can also do the same, in another form for receiving talents. To help connect spaces and these artists, the [DIVERSITY BBOX] Consultancy (social business aimed at promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in companies and institutions) and the Instituto [SSEX BBOX] enter with the curatorship of the project, and Beats with the payment of the fee to perform the shows that are selected.
“There is no social justice without economic justice, and giving this access to the stages to the Trans artistic community is the centerpiece of the discussion about inclusion, equity and the future of work”, explains Pri Bertucci, non-binary trans person, creator of the Trans Pride March , CEO of [DIVERSITY BBOX]a consultancy specializing in diversity and equity and founder of the Instituto [SSEX BBOX].
Who embarked with Beats in this story, was the artist twice nominated for a Latin Grammy and trans woman Raquel Virgínia. “Supporting the trans arts scene is a sure bet. The talent that this community brings is notorious. We need to support diversity on stage as well. What we are doing is bringing talent to different people”, emphasizes the artist.
“Investing in diversity is a must. Beats is the hallmark of all parties and the Beats Stage was the way we found to bring talent, diversity and enjoyment to our audience. Our desire is to act as a literal showcase for the talents and powers that we know exist in the trans community, collaborating, in this way, not only with the expansion of the cultural agenda in our country but, mainly, in the amplification of these incredible voices, on stages that are open to receive them, says Thayná Duarte, Cultural Intelligence Coordinator for Future Beverages at Ambev. “This year we started the project with the support of the Trans Pride March and we have a lot of news ahead, we will not stop there!”, she completes.
The Beats Stage was conceived by the SOKO agency. “When we started designing the project with the BEATS team, our main concern was to build something that would have a real impact on the community. More than making a film in June, we needed to act effectively for the cause” comments Isabela Marangoni, Creative Leader at SOKO, the brand’s agency. “Palco BEATS” is an initiative that has resources aimed at a single objective: to bring more trans and transvestites artists to the stage. We are very happy with the launch of this project that is just getting started”, she concludes.
