Soko’s project aims to draw attention to the representation of the community in politics
The LGBTQIAP+ community represents only 0.16% of politicians in Brazil. With that in mind, Soko launched its first campaign in the area of impact, led by Gabriela Rodrigues, the #VoteLGBT.
The project aims to draw attention to the representativeness of the community with a series of activations ranging from undersigned, screenings across Brazil and a film that features Giovanna Heliodoro, from @transpreta, historian and communicator at the head of the fight for gender equality.
Entitled Palanques, the video shows how LGBT+ people are used to creating their own platforms to fight on a daily basis and focuses on proving that the community lives politics and, therefore, needs to be recognized by the parties to ensure a greater number in the House and Senate.
“In these elections we run a great risk of being left out at the polls. The most recent electoral reform has drastically reduced the number of seats in the elections. Who will be left out? has already shown that he wants to vote LGBT+, but we need to be at the polls so we can be elected.”, said Evorah Cardoso, a member of #VoteLGBT.
August 15th is the deadline for all parties to register candidacies for the October elections. Currently, out of every 620 people elected, only one is LGBT+ and this issue is also exacerbated by the lack of candidacies.
With the action, the organization wants to ensure that the population can vote for names that represent its agenda and bring new points of view on areas such as safety, health and education.
In addition, #VoteLGBT invites the public to put pressure on political parties through a petition, which has an open letter to the leaders responsible for choosing the candidacies.
The action also has projections in São Paulo, Recife, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre that bring visibility to the project in scenes of the cities with QR Code that directed directly to the organization websitewhere you can also check LGBT+ pre-applications.
“Today we know the importance of representation in politics. In the 2017 São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade, 58% did not think it was important to vote for LGBT+. In 2022, the scenario is different: 88% prefer to vote for LGBT+ candidates. mission to publicize these candidacies. Only 45% of this year’s Parade claimed to already know about any LGBT+ pre-candidacy”, added Cardoso.
