the fans of Glee know! In the series, the big dream of Rachel Berry, character of Lea Michele, was to star Funny Girl on Broadway. She did it, and she was perfect in the parts that the series showed. So when it was announced that a new production of the musical would premiere in real life on Broadway, everyone immediately thought of Lea. That is, everyone but the producers of Funny Girl. They decided it was best to call Beanie Feldstein. But the public and critics did not approve.
Last month, Beanie announced she was leaving the play along with Jane Lynch in September. This is a normal thing. Big stars only stay for a certain time. But everyone who read the story felt a sense of failure. Critics especially complained about her voice. And the worst thing for Beanie was that as soon as she announced she was leaving, everyone started talking about Lea Michele again. There was no other. Today the producers announced that Lea will take on the lead role starting in September. And Tovah Feldshuh will step in for Jane Lynch.
Lea posted the photo below the poster of Funny Girl with the following caption. “A dream that comes true is an underestimation. I am so incredibly honored to join this incredible cast and production. And return to the stage playing Fanny Brice on Broadway. See you on September 6th!”
Beanie’s departure
Coincidence or not, just a day before the announcement of Lea’s name, Beanie posted on her social media that she won’t stay until September. In her post, Beanie said that she will only stay until July 31. ” Playing Fanny Brice on Broadway was a lifelong dream of mine. And doing that over the last few months has been a great happiness and a true honor. Once the production decided to take the show in a different direction, I made the extremely difficult decision to leave earlier than expected.” Lol, the timing of things delivers that decisions are linked, right?
Until Lea’s debut in September, understudy Julie Benko will take on the role. There are a lot of people who don’t like Lea Michele. Even being a fan, I know she often says what she shouldn’t. But no one can deny that she is the perfect actress for this role. And I’m already starting to see the price of the ticket to New York for September. In the meantime I will review the episodes of the fifth season of Glee to get ready (it’s on Disney Plus)
The news comes out in the same week that marks the nine-year anniversary of Cory Monteith’s death. Surely, up there, he’s happy!
