Solidifying the initiatives that had already been worked on over the years, such as, more recently, the announcement of clean energy in the production of all shoes from 2022, and the launch of Corre1 Eco, the brand’s best performance shoes, now in an ecological version, The Olympikus, which increasingly seeks to contribute to environmental and social aspects and with less impact on the planet, also represented this pillar in the Rio Marathon. In line with the event’s objectives, one of the main points in common with the brand was its concern and importance in the activation garbage disposal as a whole.
Held on November 14th and 15th, the edition of Marathon this year collected around 875kg* of waste discarded during the tests. Through collection points distributed throughout the departure, arrival, dispersal and esplanade areas of Marina da Glória, the project carried out by Cosan and Braskem had a team of more than 100 people comprising a collection team and partners. After the event, all recyclable waste was collected and sent to the Rio Marathon partner cooperative, which started the separation process.
For the two days of the race, the logistics were carried out with 2 trucks during the 21 km race and 4 trucks during the 42 km, 10 km and 5 km races, totaling 35 container bags filled with discards. Bringing together the environmental and social aspects, after recycling these materials, all the resin generated will be transformed into trash cans that will be donated to public schools, generating an even more positive result for the task force.
Olympikus on reducing climate change
The partnership between Olympikus, Rio Marathon and other sponsors of the race, reinforces the brand’s commitment to help reduce climate change on the planet, in addition to connecting with one of its main audiences in one of the most important events in Latin America, reinforcing the message that we are together for the most important race in the world, the race to stop the planet’s climate change.
*The estimated volume and weight so far refers exclusively to plastic cups, considering that the other residues are in the process of separation.
Runs1 Eco
To solidify social responsibility initiatives and amplify Vulcabras’ environmental sustainability actions, in 2021 Olympikus launched the Corre1 Eco sneakers, produced with recycled components, in a limited version of the best model ever made by the brand. Manufactured with renewable natural components, Corre1 Eco uses materials such as EVA Verde, which is produced from sugar cane and is present in the sole and insole of shoes. For each pair produced from the model, 10 plastic bottles are recycled. The launch of the model reinforces Olympikus’ commitment to the world’s most important race, the race to stop climate change.
Clean energy
Olympikus and Vulcabras formalize the announcement of their commitment to clean energy. All brand models from 2022 will be manufactured 100% using wind energy. To make the initiative viable, a partnership agreement was signed with Casa dos Ventos, so that all factories are supplied with energy from Parque Rio do Vento, one of the largest wind farms in operation in Brazil and in the world, located in Rio Great North.
