The female role in finance has been gaining more and more strength. According to the IDados Consultancy, based on IBGE figures, more than 34 million women are responsible for the family income in Brazilian households. Almost half of the families are already supported by women in the country.
For Ilana Nasser, founding partner of social impact startup Vendah, democratizing access to income for women is essential to promote gender equality.
“When a woman starts looking for income options, she is often faced with double or triple shifts, gender discrimination, lack of time or lack of capital to invest. Therefore, we present ourselves as a totally accessible option for women who want to earn their own money”, points out the executive.
Thinking of helping women who need an extra source of income or want to work on their own, Ilana used her knowledge in entrepreneurship, management and communication to create the Vendah direct sales app.
Encouraging female entrepreneurship
Her startup received more than BRL 8 million to invest in the product resale app for class C women, which was born in the middle of the pandemic. Having experienced executives at his command, he attracted the fund of Bill Gates and Bezos Startup.
Today Vendah has left the outskirts of São Paulo and serves Greater São Paulo and the municipalities of Americana, Campinas, Hortolândia, Indaiatuba, Itatiba, Nova Odessa, Paulínia, Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, Sumaré, Valinhos and Vinhedo.
There are more than 500 products for resale on the site, with household items as the flagship.
The company’s blog highlights among the ten best products for resale, this August, items such as a food shredder, magic broom, hygiene products and a towel moistened with 70% alcohol.
The resale of the products is carried out by 3,000 female entrepreneurs via social networks, especially WhatsApp.
By eliminating intermediaries between the industry and the final consumer, the application is able to offer final prices and attractive commissions to resellers.
To start reselling, you need to register on the website and download the app from the Play Store. Once the account is activated, the person can start selling. No investment, CPF or bank account verification is required.
“The payment of the commission is made in two business days, the freight is free of charge to the entrepreneur’s house and there is no need to stock up. We even deliver in peripheral regions and with zip code restrictions”, comments the executive.
The startup’s good receptivity reflects other market trends: more than 25 million people are self-employed in Brazil (IBGE) and 60% of Brazilians do some kind of ‘joke’ to close the accounts (BARE International).
“A significant portion of these people are students, who need to supplement their income, mothers who need more time at home and workers who see an opportunity to capitalize while they are in the break of their main activities”, says Luis Felipe Franco, founding partner of Vendah.
