An unprecedented study by Twitter Brasil shows what drives its users to watch streaming content and make comments on the subject on the platform.
The survey shows that series are the preferred subject on the platform, with 88% of Tweets, and that the champion of comments in the first half could be none other than the acclaimed Stranger Things.
Have you seen the series of the moment? The release of the week? The truth is that streaming platforms, and their content, have been winning the hearts of Brazilians, whether in face-to-face chats or on social networks.
And the idea of Twitter Brasil, to carry out a survey on the subject, was very strategic.
There are more than 52,000 Tweets a week on the subject in the country and 82% of social network users say they watch content from more than one streaming platform.
According to the study, people love to comment on what they’re watching: every episode, plot twist, or renewal request becomes a Tweet.
Brazilians use Twitter while watching streaming content for a variety of reasons, such as reading and sharing opinions (46%), making live comments (39%), reading reviews (36%), discovering new content (25%) and supporting the cast of their favorite productions (17%).
And conversations engage: 1 in 5 Tweets on the topic receive replies, indicating that the conversations are not ending anytime soon.
Series are main topic
Series is the main topic of conversation about streaming, accounting for 88% of Tweets in the last six months.
About 3/4 of people who use Twitter watch series at least once a week.
Between January 1 and June 30, 2022, Stranger Things (@Stranger_Things) was the most talked about series on the platform.
Euphoria (@euphoriaHBO), Heartstopper, Bridgerton (@bridgerton) and SPY X FAMILY (@spyfamily_pt) are among the most popular among Brazilians on Twitter in the period.
Releases and nostalgia
Among the most frequently viewed streaming content by people on Twitter, new releases, including original productions from each platform, are the favorites, with 41% of people declaring an interest.
Nostalgia follows soon after, with 18% of people on the platform saying they enjoy watching old TV shows and movies.
Live sports (15%), adaptations of existing content in other media – such as books, video games, etc. (14%), reruns of sporting events (5%) and reboots and remakes (2%) follow.
The survey was carried out in 2022 by Twitter in Brazil with internal data from the platform.
