São Paulo Turismo (SPTuris), a company owned by the city’s City Hall, has updated and launched this week the theme roadmap Independência do Brasil. The initiative is part of the bicentennial celebrations. The highlight is the Museu Paulista, better known as the Museu do Ipiranga, which will reopen after nine years, fully restored and with twice the exhibition space.
The script brings information about places and facts related to Independence, but not just about the Ipiranga neighborhood. This is the case of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte – known as the “church of good news” – located in the center of the capital, whose bells were the first to communicate the Proclamation and the passage of the first emperor of Brazil through São Paulo, in the same year. day of the famous “scream”.
Also in the center of the city, three more places related to the bicentennial: the Pateo do Collegio – place of foundation of the city, seat of the Provincial Government in 1822 and where Pedro stayed as Prince Regent on the way to Santos and as Emperor (albeit informal) on the way back. Next to Pateo, in the Salar da Marquesa de Santos, today the Museum of the City of São Paulo is located. Nearby, Praça do Patriarca, next to the capital’s City Hall, adorned with a statue of José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva, considered the main leader of the Independence movement.
Museum – Parque da Independência, in the Ipiranga district, houses three mandatory points: the Museum, with a collection of 125,000 items, is the main one and should be visited with the necessary calm for the best use. Nearby, the Casa do Grito, also restored and reopened as a 200-year mark, and the Monument to Independence – O Grito do Ipiranga, next to the creek.
“The Ipiranga Museum has always been one of the most visited in the capital and its reopening is the main milestone of the bicentennial”, recalls Gustavo Pires, president of São Paulo Turismo. “This gives us a lot of joy, as it associates culture and education with a strong tourist appeal”.
The Independence of Brazil Tour is part of a series of 17 themes created by SPTuris, which mix tourist and leisure attractions, helping the traveler to organize and explore the city to the fullest.
