Marca informed that it was not intended to offend anyone or spread racist ideas; doll was removed
The Reserva store, at Shopping Barra de Salvador (BA), was accused of racism by placing a black mannequin breaking the window. On social media, netizens questioned why the store did not put a white doll.
Influencer Ashley Malia said the action was ‘widespread racism’. “The Reserva store at Shopping Barra put a black mannequin breaking the store’s window as if it was invading. This is blatant racism, I don’t even know how to react,” she wrote on Twitter, but later deleted the post.
At the moment when the Reserva store sets up its window with a black mannequin breaking the glass, as happened in the store at the Barra mall, in Salvador, or upside down, as in 2016 in RS, it is yet another proof of the naturalization of violence against women. the black bodies. + pic.twitter.com/AdSiHStli0

The brand, in turn, issued a note explaining that the action, called ‘Madness for the Reservation’, was not intended to offend anyone or spread racist ideas.
“The showcase “Loucuras pela Reserva” with the puppet entering from the outside of the showcase (the same always normally used inside the showcase) was never intended to offend anyone or spread racist ideas, but only to publicize the liquidation of the store. However, if, even unintentionally, the window offends someone, we inform you that it has already been dismantled immediately. We believe in empathy as the only way to live in society and we repudiate racism in all its forms of expression. Diversity and inclusion are essential values of our brand”, he informed.
OTHER CASES
This is not the first time that the Reserve has been involved in controversy on the internet. In May 2018, the brand was accused of machismo after a post on Instagram.
“What we really want this Valentine’s Day is… Complete the caption”, read the text. At the time, Reserva stated – in another post – that the intention was to talk about sex on Valentine’s Day.
