With a sound that mixed rap, rock and funk, Planet Hemp entered the history of Brazilian music as one of the most influential bands in the country. Founded by Marcelo D2 and Skunk, the group suffered a series of censorship at the time, which resulted in canceled shows, songs banned on the radio and a clip aired at restricted times on television.
However, three decades later, the author of ‘Planet Hemp – Keep Respect’ reported that the book’s advertisements on Facebook and Instagram have been, according to him, ‘censored’. Pedro de Luna explained that the ads were banned from the platforms because of the word hemp. Therefore, the writer opted for a campaign that could circumvent censorship and expand the dissemination of the book.
Entitled ‘Legalize My Ad’, the campaign features pages that replace the word hemp synonymous with the herb, making it possible to target ads without the algorithm’s veto. Planet Ganja, Planet Herb, Planet Mary Jane, Planet Two, Planet 4:20, among others, have information about the book and the link to online sales.
“Planet was the only Brazilian band that suffered five days in jail, in 1997, and became an icon in the fight for freedom of expression. Since I released the book about the band, I can’t advertise on social media because of the name. If they were called Planet Beer, could they?” asks Luna.

In response to PROPMARK’s request, Meta reported that the ads were ‘inappropriately blocked’, and added that they are now available.
